Hey guys. Just wanted to share something sweet I found out. For a while I've been ordering all my Rotella from Amazon since it's usually the same price as Walmart and it's shipped to the house for free in 2 days. I've since become an Amazon junkie since it's so convenient and I live 20 min from town.
Anyways If you use Amazon for regular items you can sign up for Subscribe and save. This service automatically sets up monthly deliveries. If you have 5 items in your subscribe and save you get an additional 15% off. So currently I pay $16.63/gal. I just did the math on how much I use a year and set up the delivery for 3 gallons a month. This may not be news for some of you but I figured it would be helpful for some.
They also are competitive on Motorcraft filters if you only buy a few at a time. It is still cheaper to buy them in bulk from dieselfiltersonline so I usually order a years worth at a time. Anyways happy hunting boys and girls I hope this is helpful for my fellow cheapos. lol
Exactly how does Ford determine when you need an oil change. On my '11 my first OC came at 7800 mi, but the ones after came at about 6000 mi?????
Which now begs the question...will Rotella make a difference?
All my OCs were at the dealer
I generally just change it when it tells me to or 7500 miles whatever comes first. Usually when I hit the road I'm gone for 2-3 weeks and drive 6-8000 miles in that time so It usually works out to change it in between trips. Sometimes I change it a little early to avoid having to do it on my trip.
The service minder get's its interval by calculating engine hours, idle hours, duty cycle and I'm sure mileage in some cases. So basically the harder you are on that oil the sooner it will tell you to change it. The system doesn't however analyze the oil itself just data. It sounds like in your case it would be a good idea to switch to a 5w40 synthetic just because your driving style definitely makes that thing go ding faster than the average guy. I use Rotella T6 mainly due to it's cost compared to other 5w40 synthetics, and it has held up well on oil analysis. Every time I send a sample in they tell me to do a 10,000 mile interval. Which I thought is pretty good since I tow and idle quite a bit.
Hey zack, you typed the exact same response I had going in my head. Thanks!
I also drive and tow a lot and my OLM always chimes at 7500 miles, so that's when I change it,,whenever it tells me. I'm at 15,900 right now and will change the oil this afternoon since it is almost 50° out. I also use T6 because of the price and value.
Amazon, it also is good to use the Amazon smile program. It's a charity service and my particular smile charity is the local humane society. They get a percentage of my purchases which I find convenient and also good. If anyone here has the urge to be charitable it's an easy way to satisfy.

Thanks for the tip, we have amazon prime... And "Free Shipping" and "Alaska" are two words I rarely see... So we try to use Amazon as much as possible as well.
I am an A-Primer also.... Only thing that sucks about Amazon is they are charging sales tax on anything that THEY ship into Minnesota now... If an out of state vendor ships, then no sales tax, but then you don't get free two-day shipping generally...

Thanks for the heads up..
Yea that's a bummer. I pay tax on Prime purchases here in KS. My buddy that lives on the MO side doesn't have to. Death and Taxes!
