Rear bumper location.

Hi all,
I'm getting ready fab my hitch and bumper mounting brackets. I need to know what the measurement is between the bottom of the tailgate and the top of the bumper.

One other question, does it look like I have the correct angle on the bumper?

I knew those pieces of slotted angle would come in handy some time.

Right now the gap is at 2-1/8".

Any help would be appreciated!

I modified some Bronco brackets and spaced the outer ends of the bumper 1/4-inch from the bed and the return above the license plate is 1/4-inch higher than the bed fascia. In the end, you're not supposed to see daylight if looking horizontally at the bumper. Meaning, there is vertical overlap.

I concluded it's the OEM position since the dip on the bracket is centered on the bed's fascia.

Thanks HIO!
Looks like I'm pretty close, the top of the bumper is 3/4" above the fascia.
Did you take those pics tonight?

JT - Thanks for the complement, it's Mustang Acapulco blue.

Nahh.. took the pics moons ago (pun unintended).

Here's a fresh and scaled pic of an OEM bumper bracket... the left coffee stirrer is centered on the bolt holes.

I'm 7-1/2 from the hole in the frame rail and 4-1/2" to the fascia. I just need to pull the bumper back 1/2" and that should be close enough.
Thanks for the pics and measurements HIO!
PS, the insides of my bumpers are spotless.

Gotta go.....

Spotless? Well, my general observations at car and truck shows I have noticed that even the cleanest looking vehicles have some rust on the back of their bumpers - the place that few owners and platers pay attention to.

After scuffing, I apply POR-15 then brush-on Rustoleum gloss black. Rough surfaces tends to hold onto dirt whereas a slick surface (ala the gloss black) will release dirt and grit a whole lot easier after being blasted with a strong stream of water.

.... sweet 4x4 dreams Tomahawk.
