does anyone know if it is going to happen?
if so , anytime soon?
need a new big vehicle , love the gas milage of the diesel but the
excursion ,i think is too big!
I have not heard anything, but the latest issue of Car and Driver has an article on the 2004 F-150. They list the only available engines as the 4.6 and the 5.4 l gas motors. (3V 300 HP version)
Think I would take a 5.4 over the 6.0 Diesel anyway, That poor engine is a VERY LARGE black eye on ford, After all the problems and unhappy customers who shelled out 40,000 for a truck and then ford basically says , sorry cant fix it.. I think I'll stick with their v8, or Id get a diesel from Chevy or dodge OR stick with the reliable 7.3!
VOJAK, No, the 6.0 PSD is not going to find it's way into the Expy . . . and the V-6 "Baby" PSD program for the Expy and F150 is dead.
ktmguy70, ??? we have a bunch of the new 6.0 PSD and are now quite pleased with them. They are powering everything from F250 SD pickups to F550 SD heavy equipment maintenance trucks
We did have a problems in the two earliest models we got (fuel injection system) that occured within the 1st 5,000 miles and we were plenty pissed . . . the dealer was able to fix the problem very quickly and we have since logged well over 40k trouble free miles on every 6.0 PSD since.
I'll let you know if we have any more trouble as our guys seem to enjoy tearing up the equipment.
Petrol, Im basing this info on 25% net research, 25% family member ( who is the service manager at a ford Delaership in WV and has been there for over 30 years, and says that the 6.0 diesel has one of the worst warranty issues of any vehicle ford has put out, Mostly software related that cant be fixed with reflashes, bad injectors, stalling, not running to potential. he said on average for every 10 they sell, they see 5 back within 3 onths.) and 50 % 6.0 forum on this site.
Im not bashing Ford in anyway, And I hope your 6.0's continue to provide you years of service, however based on information available to me, if I were to buy a diesel now, which I am looking at (hence the research) I wouldnt "chance" the 6.0. I would go with the duramax, cummins, or the 7.3. Obviously not all of the 6.0's are bad, but enough bad press to take them out of my consideration.
thanks for the info Ron. I also hope the 6.0 PSDs that we have continue to perform as they should . . . the problems we did have happend early and I hope we don't see any more.
I had no idea that Ford had such a large number of 6.0 PSD issues. I'm not a big fan of diesels in general and don't spend much time 'studying' up on them . . . thanks for the schoolin
