Recently I traded in my 2012 6.7L F250 SRW 4x4. It was a GREAT truck that ran fantastic and performed flawlessly...up until it began to show signs of the high pressure fuel pump failing.
Traded it in on a 2015 F250, same truck 6.7L. I could hardly stand to drive this new truck. The engine was so loud, rough, and "Clacky" sounding, I literally got angry every time I drove it. The dealer gave me a half way decent price on trading it back in on another 2015, equipped the same way.
I am so disgusted I could spit nails right now. The 2nd 2015 I bought is now running/sounding the same as the first 2015. It's noisy, clacky, and rough running. I had the first 2015 in the shop 4 times, and each time the dealer said "no codes, we can't find anything wrong". I contacted my regional rep who said "the service department said nothing was wrong".
Yesterday at a gas station, a 2013 F250 6.7 starts up next to me, and it was the most quiet, smooth, beautiful sounding diesel engine I have heard....it was just like my 2012. I fire up my 2015, and it sounded twice as loud and rough as the 2013 sitting next to it.
Is anyone else experiencing this with the 2015 models? If I wouldn't loose my shirt (again), I would trade this POS in on a gas burner or a used truck just so I don't have to listen to this thing any longer.
Any suggestions as far as fuel additives or something that could make this engine run as smooth as others?

Ford updated the HP and Torque on the 2015 models, Could that be the difference? What weight oil are you running, 15-40? Factory oil is 30 weight and would make more noise.
As a side note I do miss the sound of my old 6.0. I will take a listen to the new 2015 6.7.
The part that really sucks eggs: Ford claims the 6.7 2nd generation is quieter! I can tell you it's not only noisier, but runs rougher, and feels exactly the same or even a little down on power. BOTH of my 2015's have been like this.
I just wonder how a company(FORD) can get away with saying something that is blatantly untrue.
I have noticed that some fuel stations make the truck sound a bit noisier than other. Thats what got me to thinking maybe I can get an additive to quiet this thing down, so I don't wake up the neighbors when I start it in the morning. ??
I would try doing an oil change and adding some diesel fuel additive such as Power Service. I know I can tell a difference in the engine noise of my 2013 PSD when it is running with or without an additive. This last oil change I changed from Rotella 15/40 to Delo 15/40 and for some reason my engine noise seems to have become more quite.
If that don't do it and you can get by with a gas motor I say for the 6.2.
Thanks for that Jon...I am coming up on 2500 miles on the truck so it's just about due for the first break in oil change. I will try the additive you suggested. THANK YOU!
Vince, are you listening to it when it's cold? The ECM will not enable pilot injection until it gets somewhat warm. Until then, it sounds like an old diesel. That's how it is with 1st gen, at least.
By the way, what was happening with your fuel pump on the 2012? What signs to watch out for? If there is a sure sign the engine is en route to a meltdown, taking a hit on the trade is for sure a better way forward than eating $18,000 repair bill.

Reason: spellcheck
I belive he posted metal particles in his lower fuel filter in another post. I remember him saying it. I was thinking how that couldn't physically happen! I belive there really is no warning signs other then low fuel pressure warnings.
My question is why couldn't you hear it on the test drive? You would think that when you were test driving the 2nd 15 you would have noticed it.
Hmm, my 2015 is quiet. I have had 7.3's and a 6.0. Tis motor not even close to the sound output. Cold outside and it sounds a little more like a diesel....but not much.
Park next to a 2013 everyday. Both sound the same.
Interesting
Could be related to fuel source. My 6.7s overall operation and idle tone varies between different fuel stations. It runs best off the Marathon fuel by the interstate so that is where I buy 95% of my fuel. I had metal shavings show up in my lower fuel filter on my 6.4. I understand the nauscious feeling that brings.

Just to clarify, I am speaking of adding the Power Service diesel additive to the "Diesel Fuel", not the motor oil. As an added benefit with the use of the Power Service additive I do also pick up about a mile per gallon which makes the cost of the additive a wash dollar wise.
I bought a 2015 diesel that sounds like a 2005 diesel. If I would have wanted the 2005 sound, I would have spent 40k less and bought a 2005.
Something is really wrong with that truck.
And it will bite you in theass at some point in the future.
The Service Adviser needs to stop relying on the computer diagnostic and he/she should clean out their ears.
Don't be a guinea pig and don't put any additives in it that the dealer could blame you for.
Demand a refund or new truck.
it began to show signs of the high pressure fuel pump failing.
I don't doubt what you experienced. Who would otherwise trade one 2015 for another 2015? Certainly a few test rides prior to trading one 2015 for another would show both sounded the same. It must be something that occurs after you get a few miles on the 2015s.
My 2011 and 2015 both sound the same. I don't notice any increase in engine noise. I do notice an increase in power though.
What were the signs that made you believe your 2012 HPFP was failing? Was it not covered under a warranty?
