So I took my 2015 F350 Lariat in to the carwash today for a hand wash. Everything is fine until the idiot who is going to dry it. I see him manually unfold the mirrors after the truck exits the blower. Before I could tell the dumb *** there is a button for that he drives off. He jumps out and pulls the driver side mirror to the full extended position by hand. I run to the truck and tell him to stop. I started yelling at him and told him the mirrors are electric. So now one is out and the other is in. I wanted to punch him in the mouth. He says "Sorry, I didn't know". I told him if he didn't know he should have ask someone.
Here's my question, is that going to hurt anything? I ran the mirrors in and out a couple of times and folded and un-folded them. Boy was I pissed off. Anyone have this happen to them?
It won't hurt anything, they are made to be manually worked if the electrics have failed.
That was the first question ford asked when I took mine in to have the driver side replaced. Has someone manually pulled the mirror out? So I would be cautious about doing it on the regular. It took me a month to get them to warranty it.

The operative word there is "excuse" not a real problem, which manually operating the mirror is not.
I do not disagree however, it was exhausting battling corporate over the question of someone did or did not manually fold my mirror, possibly causing damage. So I still caution against you doing it.
Twice the car wash people tried to fold my mirrors by hand, but I was in the truck each time so not a problem there. Based on that initial experience, I waited where the truck comes out of the wash lane for the final cleaning tasks and each time I stepped forward and unfolded the mirrors before they did anything.

x2 Sadly, this is what you have to do else the hourly carwash knucklehead will manually do it for you. Nothing worse than that loud clicking/tearing of gears sound.
My driver mirror has been replaced twice under ESP. Other than dealing with it failing and having to go to the dealer a few times, the process has been fairly painless.
They just have to take a lot of pictures and it's best if the mirror housing is presentable.
I read in the owner's manual and it says, you can also operate them manually. My thing is if it is not necessary, then it doesn't need to be done. No sense in shortening the life of the gears or strip one. From now on I guess if you want something done right you have to do it yourself. The Idiot even stood there like he was going to get a tip. My wife said aren't you going to tip him and I told her he already got his tip of the day.
