i have an 03 eddie i would like to change the exhaust to a deeper sound but i do not want to go over board because the eddie bauer edition is considered to be somewhat luxury. anyone have any suggestions??
I have used the Midas performance muffler in two previous vehicles and really liked the sound. Not too loud and with a lifetime warranty.
On my 03 I opted for a Raven muffler. Much louder, and a bit noisey inside the vehicle. But I still like it. It gets pretty quiet once the vehicle is in overdrive. Only cost 200.00 installed. The 03 already has a 2 3/4 inch pipe, so I didn't feel like dropping 400.00 on a more popular exhaust with 3 inch pipes.
Flowmaster has a muffler for suv's that is suppossed to be quieter, yet sound good. You may want to check it out.
Hard to say about the gas mileage. I think it did. But I had it put on at about 150 miles, so I didn't have any prior measurements to compare. Same thing with the 03. I don't have a full tank of fuel through it yet, so I really won't have a good baseline. Maybe someone who did a mod later in milage could give you better numbers. Fact is, I don't do it for the mileage, or even the power increase. I don't think you can accurately measure that driving the street anyway. I just go for the sound and hope I get some other benefit with it. I realized years ago that loud does not insure better fuel mileage or power. It takes alot of fancy tuning to make it all work. So if it sounds good, I like it.
Careful with Midas... Yes the warranty the Mufflers, but they WELD them in... the new muffler is free, but the Pipe from tha cat to the new muffler will get ya every time... If you go to Midas Insist IN WRITING that they use Clamps and DO NOT WELD.....
Have it put on the work order before you turn over your keys.... that way if they Weld it, you can have them replace the pipe right then and there and use clamps like they were supposed to
The midas muffler on my 2000 exp developed a hole and the shop here cut it out and installed a new one for no cost. I can see where a shop may try to rip you off for the cost of a new piece of pipe if it's welded in. But no problem for me.
