So the other morning in my rush to get to work(I was late already), it was about 4:30 am and I didn't see this black Hyundai Elantra behind me. I NEVER pull in and always back in, but I pulled in after work the day before. So I look behind me, see the empty parking spot, see a car to the left, but I didn't see a car to the right. So I am backing up, backup sensors are going off(Most times they go off when nothing is behind you), and all of a sudden I hear a crunch. I get out to see that I decimated a mirror on this 2006 Hyundai Elantra, but the mirror REALLY decimated my truck bed. I was surprised at how much damage the mirror actually did. Already called insurance and got it fixed already. All this happened about 2 days ago. Here are before and after pictures of the truck.

Some of you might ask why I didn't stop when my sensors were going off, truth is I don't really know. I should have stopped and double checked that there was nothing behind me, but I was in a rush. Shouldn't have happened, but it did. It looks pretty good, there are a couple of spots where it looks like there is a grain or two or sand or a fleck of dust or something. I pointed it out and I guess they have to let it cure before they try anything. The body shop adjuster was pretty positive all it needed is more buffing, but I'm not so sure. The repair has a lifetime warranty, so If anything goes wrong, I just bring it back and they fix it.
I ignored my sensors once...and only once. Backed into a mailbox thinking the sensors were sounding off on the curb. They weren't. I have a nice little crease/dent on my tailgate to remind me to listen and obey the sensors.
My complaint with the camera is that you have to be looking forward to see it!
I want a second screen so I can see it while looking out the back. The camera does not have peripheral vision, so I don't feel comfortable relying on it solely.
When I sold my 2011 F250 i missed the camera and sensors something fierce. Was so happy to have them again in my new truck. They should be standard on every vehicle period. I know the camera's will be, but the sensors as well.

So you turn around and look out the windows when backing up? The camera is in forward view for a reason. Reason being you are looking forward into your side view mirrors when backing and you just need to glance up to see the camera. Your truck has side view mirrors for a reason, use them.
a plastic mirror scraped it that bad? wow..another reason why I HATE the paper thin metal that these trucks are made out of....
thankfully the shop did a good job on the repair..
I dented my truck in almost the same place, and was able to repair it with my fingers.. yes.. my fingers.. the metal is so thin and flimsy you can push out dents with your fingers.
With ya tofan, I just put a (not as bad) battle scar on mine 2 weeks ago. Had a storm come through I was pulling down trees out of the road at 430 in the morning. Tree slipped down a bank and under my truck just as I was pulling away and pulled the rear bumper out on the left side under the sensor a little. Decided it's going to stay there. Feel your pain should have put a little more thought into what that tree might do before I pulled.
Also haven't fixed my mirror that I hit a tree branch doing 60mph July 4th. Well it's fixed with black duck tape for the time being.
