I've installed an original AM radio into my 64 F100 truck and need some wiring help. I've searched pretty extensively for the yellow and black power wire but can't find it. There appears to be one coming out of the wall in the harness (it's pretty thick) but I can't for the life of me figure out where it goes. There is, however, a yellow line (accessories?) that'll work but the power is constant. Also, I don't think it's fused. My questions are: where the F is the black/yellow line? Is it possible there isn't one? If I put a fuse in the line connecting to the yellow, what size should it be? Would it be better to just run a new line from the battery? I spend a few hours last night trying to find information and/or a wiring diagram I could actually read and came up empty handed. Any help would be greatly appreciated! PS here's a pic of my fuses
It sounds to me like you're trying pretty hard to use original wiring to achieve your goal. Would you be willing to just "make it work"? I don't have a '64 wiring diagram - mine's a '66 - but I'd be willing to bet they are the same for the radio. Mine shows a yellow/black power wire coming out of the radio to/through a bullet connector (same wire color) and on to your fuse box, specifically to the 14 amp fuse labeled for the turn signals and the radio. I think the end of the wire is a spade connector which plugs in right next to the fuse. To just "make it work" you could just run your own wire with an in-line fuse from the radio power wire and connect it to the accessory post on the back of your ignition switch. That way you would have fused, switched power for your radio. Your fuse box looks a bit different to mine, but it shouldn't make that much difference. Hope this helps.
Posting a pic of radio diag. out of 65 shop manual; should be similar/same. Also diag. from 65 wiring manual. As indicated in pic there's an inline fuse block prior to the power source.
P.S. The prior owner replaced the original speaker and installed after market in door panels. In rewiring I found pins similar to original speaker connector at local auto parts store, I soldered the pins to one end and ran them to the speakers. If decide to go with under the dash speaker believe I saved a link for replacement an FTE member posted some time back.
