Newbie 54 F100 brake Question

My 54 F100 is just about street legal, but I have some questions regarding the brakes. The truck already has the under the seat master cylinder and vacuum booster installed. The truck has Mopar front discs and Mustang drums in the rear. There are no vacuum lines run to the booster and stopping the truck requires a lot of pedal pressure. I've read several of the threads regarding power brakes but I'm just looking for some guidance on what I really need to hook up the power brakes properly. The truck is powered by a 5.0 HO EFI mated to an AOD. I have no nothing about the type of master cylinder or vacuum booster that is installed. Thanks. I've inserted a photo of the MC and booster hose attachment.

chment.

Adding vacuum will most likely improve your braking ability by a considerable amount. Hooking up a hose from the intake manifold where full manifold vacuum is available to the booster fitting should do the trick.

Two things to know;

1) Correct power brake vacuum hose is DOT approved with a special sidewall construction to prevent collapse under vacuum conditions. Do not try to jury-rig the deal with inferior hose, like fuel line, etc. It's also of a special size (11/32) so you aren't supposed to be able to substitute it for anything else. (3/8 can split the end, 7/16 would be too loose to seal)

2) Because it's special, it isn't cheap. And since it's a rather long run from the engine to the booster under the floor, you won't want to buy 6-8 feet of the stuff. The big trucks that had power brakes from the factory had metal lines for most of the length with short rubber connections at the ends. You may want to consider something similar.

The bottom side of the upper intake has several choices for that hose. I didn't have a pic of the multi forked vacuum "bar" that comes out of the rear of the intake but it has one large tube for the booster. I'd use that.

Thanks, Wayne. Any thoughts on using a vacuum reserve canister?
