Can anyone help me out here. I found a local guy who has a 1977 F-150 4x4 that runs and drives but the body is completely rotted. He is only asking $100.00
Was the 4 speed with granny first gear the same in 1977 and 1979, and was the transfer case the same?
I haven't even seen the truck yet, but was thinking of buying it and taking the transmission and transfer case for spares. I figured that I would save a trip to look at it if I could find the answer here.
the transmissions should be the same, I think ford used the np 435 through the 70's, this is the one with the aluminum top on it. Transfer case should either be an np 205 or 203 full time unit.
I remember reading something here on the boards about all NP435s being mated with NP205s. The same poster also said that the only way you could get a NP203 was behind an automatic. I wouldn't take that as gospel though. Lot's of mis-information gets posted on the boards.
what you should do is either find a decoder for the plate inside the door jamb or crawl underneath and see what the tranny says on its side. if its a t 18 or t 19 it will say borg warner right on it. dont know about the np 435.
My NP435 has a tag attached on the passenger side of the case with two bolts on the PTO cover. The model number is at the end of the top line of numbers. Aside from that the NPs have the little NP star looking insignia on both sides of the case. If you look at the NP205 from the front, the tag is attached just below and to the left of the front yoke.
clean79150, if you already were aware of all that I apologize. I'm not trying to insult anyones intelligence.
Thanks for the replies. I guess I'm just going to have to crawl underneath the 77 to check and see what it does have. I guess whatever it has will work if I ever need it.
