300 6 cyl teardown
As for the oil on the top of one piston, i'm not so sure about it, but it definetly sounds like it popped a head gasket or at the very worst cracked the head. Which i doubt happend.
Send the head off and get it checked for cracks and pop a new gasket on there. it should be good to go for awhile.
HTH -Tim-
it ended up with a new everything, including a head.
it too was blowing gaskets alot.
all pistons,bearings,cam,lifters,oilpump,carb too(just recently)
I found special rings that offer little to NO blow by.
mild cam,I hope you have a torqe wrench
Make sure you put the rear main seal in correctly, mine still drips.
After it sits for a month i pump the throttle once and hit the key once and it comes to life IMEDIATELY.
I'd hate to part with this truck but i need a dump truck now.
tired of unloading it by hand, trash and dirt.
the body has been getting worse.
I like to say the engine needs a new truck, but if my new truck will be a dumper, i'd probly have to upgrade to a larger motor too.
send me some links to used dump trucks for my research.
good luck ! it's easy, take your time dont rush it,and plan to do it twice, the gasket kits are cheap enough to buy over and over,
Oh, breaking in the rings was fun,I was told to get on a high way and floor it up to 50 then deaccelerate back down to 25-30 and then hit it again back up to 50 many times.I guess this worked because a have aprox 145+ lbs of compression today.
By the way you should plan on pulling the motor out,
I used a combination 9/16 1/2 closed end wrench to take it all apart, easly.

If the gasket is all there, then you have a problem somewhere else.
