Had some A-hole side swipe me in traffic this morning
Thankfully my nerf bars and "wide" tires kept their hoopty off of me, so no damage that I've found so far, to my truck. Pretty sure their ride is marked up a bit, my LF sidewall was nice and black, scrubbed clean. Their roofline pushed my mirror in, but it reset itself with a couple pulls of the tuck ****, so it would seem all's well.
They kept going, obviously guilty, and I was too intent on navigating 5 lanes of traffic to get to the shoulder and check for damage, assuming they were doing the same, to keep an eye on them.
Oh well, their ride probably now has some Nascar black circle on the side, and dented sheet metal/lowers. Serves 'em right......
Glad it wasn't serious and at least no body damage. Saves you a ton of time and expense.
The scratch would annoy me only because they chose not to own it and stop like a normal person.
Otherwise it would be no big deal because the damage would be to their vehicle as you said.
That sux. Glad you made it out with minimal damage. Several years ago, I had someone decide they wanted my lane more than I did. I was in my '99 7.3 with a bumper like Roy's that sticks out. They managed to total their vehicle and scuffed the paint on the edge of my bumper and knocked the dust off of the tow hooks as they spun in front of me. Luckily for them, they walked away uninjured. Luckily for me, I had a big truck with a heavy engine and heavy duty bumper. They were about 6" from actually clearing my front end.
Around here when people don't stop it usually means they don't have insurance - is that the case for your area too? I can just imagine her trying to explain the tire marks to her husband. What color was the car?
The two most popular ways around here are, either print your own fake card to take with you for registration (it is never actually verified), or buy a policy long enough to get a real card, then let it lapse from lack of payment.
Alabama began "checking" insurance during registration beginning Jan. 2013.
Before that, they did not check and depending on the person, they may not even walk outside to look at the vehicle if it's a new registration.
They did not look at my new truck or verify the VIN.
I don't remember if the lady asked for proof of insurance last year for renewal, I don't think she did.
In fact, I do remember commenting about that later to someone.
Here's an example of unclear laws. My 10' utility trailer originally registered in TN I then registered in AL a few years ago.
They did not care to look at it and it's easier to register if it's from another state.
My 20' factory ordered and built trailer with a VIN and paperwork had to be inspected so I had to drag that thing to the worse possible place to take a trailer.
Still doesn't make sense to me.
In Alabama, windshield or dash mounted GPS units are illegal. Anything forward of the front seats.
Except that's not enforced obviously because of OEM NAV units and the officers run GPS units as well.
In my truck, I have my GPS and Edge Insight. Technically, that's two volitions. EDIT: The more I think about this, it may be restricted to the windshield so OEM NAV may be excluded.
As you can see, there is room for improvement and enforcement but more government isn't the answer either.
They're simply running on borrowed time. For insurance, the laws are there and will eventually catch up to them (as in the case of a wreck).
Sun's been up for awhile now, went and checked real good for any damage, and since everyone loves pics, here's some:
You can barely make out the scratch on the nerf bar:
And:
But I like the tire shots:
Look how the rubber heated and rolled :
Oh yeah, they definitely got nascar'd!
sunsabitches.....
Good deal.Couldve been alot worse.Although with my OCD and seeing that scratch everyday on nerf bar if it was on drivers side I would have to replace it.But im nuts and you are prolly not.
