6.7 hood insulation

Just got a new 2014 and I raised the hood to find no hood sound deadening mat. Is y'all's like that?

Congrats on the new truck. None in mine either, they reduced the noise of the engine thru computer controlling the injection events before, during and after top dead center of the compression stroke plus a few other engineering marvels.
I believe the tech folder on 6.7 does an excellent job of explaining a few of them.
Enjoy!!

The gas trucks have the insulation, diesels do not.

I don't know why but I suspect it has much more to do with heat dissipation or retention. I don't think either gas or diesel needs that stuff for sound management, more to do with dealing with heat and ideal engine temps while driving.

Some actually think the hood blankets are detrimental in that they hold the heat IN during our "global warming" summers...

I know the 84 with 6.9 I have, still has a written statement to the effect that the insulation under hood and on firewall/dash was required to meet sound emissions, or some thing to that effect !

Does anyone know if the hood insulation from a 6.0 hood would fit the 6.7 hood?

They figure Diesel owners won't mind a bit of noise... heck many of us are slightly disappointed at how quiet they are when stock. Until you turn off the pilot injection.

My '06 V10 gasser didn't have hood insulation nor did either of the 5.4 gassers. As far as the '11 6.7, I like to listen to that little bit of diesel clatter (except when the weather is really cold/loud).

Still wondering if anyone knows the answer to post #8. Also does anyone know if the fumoto oil drain valve for a 6.0 will fit the oil pan of a 2014?

Why not order the one for the 2011 6.2 gasser - that one should fit.

This engine is so quiet I dont know why you would need any sound dampening from engine compartment.I bet it would still be just as loud with it.Which isnt very loud.I can barely tell its running sometimes.Which yrs ago I wouldve not liked but getting older I enjoy a quiet engine now.

But as stated above the 6.2 would prolly fit.

I agree this motor is pretty quiet on the inside and I am not looking to add the insulation to it either - but it is available if one should want it.

Now if you were in a cold climate and it kept he engine bay warmer and you warmer as a result - I could see wanting it. But right now, the coldest it got at my house this past winter was +40F for a couple of days and it still hit +60F during the day.
