Hello,
I am new in this section for the forum. I spend most of my time in the 73-79 section. I have found a '41 truck for sale in my area. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet, but I do know it is missing part of the grill and the rear fenders. How hard will those be to replace? He is asking $900 for the truck, so I am going to assume it is going to be on the very rough side. Thanks in advance for the help.
Parts availability really depends on what size truck it is. If it is a 1/2 ton, parts are merely rare. Parts for 3/4 and 1 ton (same sheet metal) are the proverbial hens teeth. Restoring one is definitely worth it if you are into those trucks. It will be a lot of work.
Some 1/2 ton parts are readily available. Most chassis parts are not bad to find at all, since they are the same as the 40 cars. New 1/2 ton beds are available too. New 1/2 ton fenders are available in fiberglass. Original steel fenders however are hard to find in decent shape.
My dad and I just finished up his 41 a couple of years ago. Dennis carpenter drake and a few others will have most everything you need. It really depends on what you are gonna do with the truck a stock restore a rat rod or full custom. Most of the body parts are being reproduced in fiberglass. The grills are readily available but are far from cheap. There is no better looking truck than the 40 and 41 Ford trucks. If you buy it and have any questions feel free to message me.
