Hi Everybody. I just bought another 47 Ford F5 with a dump bed on it. I'm trying to get it shipped from Idaho to Florida has anybody used a shipping carrier before? Or what size trailer would be perfect for this particular truck? I don't have the exact dimensions, do any of you have the exact dimensions for a 47 Ford F5 dump truck? What trailer would be right?
My '40 1 1/2 ton with a 12' bed just barely fits on a 16' flatbed trailer. It was OK for a short trip to the muffler shop but not something I would use for any real distance. I suggest a 20' or so trailer so you can get the truck properly on the trailer with the correct amount of tongue weight. Years ago I towed another '40 1 1/2 ton flatbed dump with a rental trailer. The truck fit but I couldn't get enough tongue weight due to the weight of the dump assembly/dump. Result was an e ticket 180 on the 10 Freeway east of Los Angeles. Not something I ever want to do again or would wish on anyone. So, if you do decide to tow it on a trailer make sure all is squared away before you embark on the long trip from Idaho to Florida. There is a shipper on the H.A.M.B. by the name of Ben D who gets good reviews. Don't know if he can handle anything as large as your F5 but its worth a try. Good luck.

Well Boonieman, Its not cheap. A friend of mine had a simi tractor transported from Calif. to Indiana because it blew an engine while he was on a run. It cost him $3600. Your shipment is a little shorter so you might do the math.
I had my '47 2 ton shipped from Minot ND to Burlington WA. , over 1200 miles for 900.00. The guy I bought it from posted it 'on the board' for independent truckers to bid on. If someone is in Idaho and going to Florida and has a space, it makes sense for them to take it. The guy who sold it to me said he could get it to me for .65 per mile. I think that was about right if I could do math...... SWB and LWB big trucks do make a difference. I always buy SWB 1 1/2 tons. Because I like them and my 16' trailer is fine. I DEFINATELY have hauled the longer ones and the tail wags the dog like crazy over 40 mph. Not good!
Thank you guys for all the input. I have found a couple carriers that are capable of shipping the old 47... Quotes were from 1300-3400. It's crazy but it all depends on who is heading where with a load. Most likely it will be added to a rig that is hauling from Seattle to Jacksonville Florida. Still nothing concrete yet. But I have picked up a trailer for my own local hauling, just not large enough to cross this mighty country.
So you are saying you have it now in Florida? Sign up as a subscriber or member or whatever it's called and get on with the pictures please. Remember like it is said around here 'without pictures, it didn't happen'... Idaho is a good place to buy them!
