I have a 2013 F350. Since it was new in August the turbo has made a chattering sound that sounds to me like the waste gate (if it had one) is opening and closing rapidly. Almost like its building boost and dumping it over and over again. Usually happens when it is in 6th gear around 1700 rpm under light load. It also does it from time to time while plowing snow. You can power through it or let off and it will go away. My local dealer where it was bought new put a new turbo on it and the problem still persists. The truck just turned over 8k miles and has been in several times in attempt to resolve the issue. They say that there are no codes on the truck nor does Ford have anything on their service web. Anyone had a similar problem or know the answer to it? My dealer claims that no one has ever had the issue. Thanks
I have the same problem with my 2013 F350. I have found that if I buy the best fuel I can find and use PS Diesel Clean that it happens less often. I have not taken it to the dealer yet, but I am considering it now. My truck has about the same miles as yours and I bought mine at the end of August as well. I would be interested in hearing if you find a solution.
That doesn't sound like a turbo issue. This sounds like a known problem that the early 6.7s have, but I thought it was not supposed to be an issue on the 13s. My Job 1 2011 did it a lot between maybe 10,000 and 30,000 miles. It would always occur just prior to or at the start of an active regen. It sounds something like detonation in a gas engine. The truck would run rough and lose power. Downshifting to increase rpm helped but did not cure the problem. Memory tells me that the events only lasted 30 seconds to a minute. Fuel additives did seem to help. In fact I use an additive 80-90% time now and haven't experienced the problem in a long time.
Mine isn't based around the regen, I can make the truck do it at anytime. The ford dealer put a new turbo on mine at 3k and the issue still continued. I just picked it up last night from the dealer and have a monitor on it now. The mechanic suggested that it is something with the EGR, but with the emissions standards they cannot adjust. My 2011 with EGR delete and a programmer doesn't have any issues.
I also bought mine the end of August.
It didn't start doing any of this till it had around 5000 miles on it.
I recently took mine into the dealer and they reflashed it. I lost milage and it still has the same problem but at a different rpm and with the engine loaded a bit more. Since the reflash the transmission shifts different. It will come up to the rpm its going to shift at, hang there for a bit then shift. It makes it hard to keep up with stop and go traffic.
My Cousin has a 13 F250 that runs flawless and gets an average of 17mpg.
I don't expect to get as good of mileage as him as mine is a dually and his is a srw short box but I was getting anywhere from 14.6 to 15.3 depending on idle time and now the best I do is high 12s and low 13s. Before the reflash it was high 13s, low 14s.

I believe the transmission goes through a relearn period after reflash. So hopefully it gets better with more time.
What RPM were you seeing the problems at and what are the RPMs where you are seeing it now? Mine varies between 1100-1500 when in 5 or 6th gear. Did they tell you the flash was supposed to fix the issue or was that their default response just to flash it? Mine seems to have gotten a bit better with the warmer weather, but not completely gone.
