Talking 30 Years in AK.

I went to AK in 72 in my 73 F250 and left AK 30 Years later driving an 88 F250/7.3l Diesel pulling a 29' 5er.
During that time I had four F150/300 six and two Bronco's with the same engine. All stick shifts too. I never found an Auto for those old guys.

I lived in Peters Creek most of those years.
I had a nice house on East 4th Ave in Anchorage and an apartment way out East Northern lights (Earth quake flats) or Shaker town.

The Company put me the last three + years in Ketchikan.
I Managed to sell all of it

I worked all over the state, flying mostly, and loved it.
Only my bad Heart forced me to come outside to live in Alabama.

Fishing, Clamming, Hunting, Camping, Gold panning, Building Cabins, River Rafting, and generally doing all the Nutty things any Alaskan kid would do.
Take your relatives up to see a Bear.
I learned to fly up there. Flying around those mountains is where you learn Caution. But we found good places to "Pick n' Pan" that way.

Now I believe Idaho/Montana are the closest to the Alaskan experiences we could get. From the Flat States anyway.

I may get back some day, to my Family in Wasilla. But they don't want any Cripples to watch out for.

You guys git on enjoying all you can. Post pictures of somethings you do.

sorry to hear you're no longer in the last frontier. my employer told me it was time to go in 2012. i can't wait to go back. i'm looking for work somewhere in the southeast part of the state. i'd like to turn wrenches for a helicopter company seein' as how thats what i've specialized in over the past ten years or so…
hope all is well in alabama. maybe we'll cross paths when we get back there.
by the way, i have plenty of AK pictures, but i don't think they should be posted on this particular forum. let me know if you wanna see what i saw.

cheers!

We got hooked on Alaska when we visited a couple of years ago and made the move up. I would hate to have to leave to go back.

Even though my health isn't the greatest - still having a good time here and enjoy it more than Florida.

I lived in Anchorage, Peters Creek, Juneau, and Ketchikan.
There's plenty of Chopper work in most all those places. And way out in the Western Villages too.
After my Heart attack, the blood thinners made me a victim of the Cold. Cant stand it when the Temp drops into the 30's. I'd never make a winter.

Post your photos on "Photo Bucket" then, all you have to post here is the link.
My Ex burned all my photos.

bdpotts, start looking in Ketchikan, then other cities in the area. We get plenty of Tourists going up to a Glacier in choppers. Lot's of flying in the Summer.

Flying Fixed wing on Floats is exciting. When we are over the Destination, the pilot takes us around in a circle of the landing area so we can all look for logs in the water.

I've been in Fairbanks at -40 and Ice Fog so thick you cannot breath without coughing. You cannot see to cross the streets.

Anyplace on the Coast of AK, rarely gets up to 70-80 in the summer.

There are at least two other FTE members that live in North Pole, one owns Hectors Welding.

I passed thru North Pole in May 2013 while on a AK/Yukon cruise tour. The Santa you have on the main drag at one time had two duplicates in CA

One was located at Santa's Village on Highway 101 near Oxnard, the other was located at another Santa Claus theme park (I forget the name) in Fawnskin near Lake Arrowhead.

heart attack, lost count of strokes....

still rather be up here then lower forty eight most of the year.

still go down in fall for some deer hunting and at times a few birds..

difinetly have changed things do...

fish from heated ice shanty (when go in the winter),
have fire wood stacked and split long before snow flies.
(then have step-son carry in during cold weather > )

auto-start on truck so its warm by the time you get in and go

keep nitro in a container around neck, so don't freeze fingers getting it out.

After the Triple bypass the need for Nitro went away.
But the blood thinners will be forever and it's those Cumadin Pills that are the Blood Chillers.

The Poor Son-in-law will soon have the Natural Gas brought into your house.
