99 Expedition transfer case swap

I have a 99 Exp. with torque on demand transfer case that is giving me grief. It wants to stay in 4hi like it is continually sensing wheel slip. My question is can I swap it for a t-case from an F-150 that dosnt have the T.O.D.? And if so do i need to swap the computer as well? Any info is much appreciated.

Just remove fuse #104 from the fusebox under the hood. Doing so will prevent power from reaching the front clutch, so you will never get 4WD.

I don't understand why it doesn't help with your problem? With fuse #104 out it will stay in 2WD and not kick into 4hi.

I am with Alloro here . Why does it not help with your problem. To change the transfer case you would also have to change the front axle assy. to one with the vacuum engagement stuff . Most likely some more electronic stuff and maybe the GEM.
The fastest easy way IS what Alloro suggested .
You might also look into the brown wire mod.

Sounds like he wants to retain 4WD, not disable.

That is correct, I need to fix the prob, not hide it. my front axle dose have a vacuum operated actuator on it, why would i need to replace it?

I am not familiar with the torque on demand, so correct me where I am wrong.
My take is if this system has a control switch , as my 96 explorer had , which switched the system from 2x4, to tod.auto , you should be able to change the transfer case .

The rest of the components are in place already, and if you get a manual tc. There should be no other components to change.
If you get the esof. Transfer case, I am guessing , that you will have a gem module to change , as well as the related switch

Ford did in most cases include the major eelectrical harness

Well apparently some one has already swapped in a front axle with vacuum actuators on it or you have the only 99 with factory one installed one on it . I believe Ford stopped doing that in 1998.
The brown wire mod does not disable 4WD only control it in a way similar to a manual system for very little effort and almost no money.

Thanks for all the reply's, they are helpful. Some Expeditions had a 4 place switch on the dash. 2wd, A4wd, 4hi, and 4low. Mine only has a 3 place switch A4wd, 4hi, and 4low. I dont know much about this system and how it works or its components. The brown wire mod seems like it may be an option but I dont know if it will by-pass the torque on demand (which is what i would like to get rid of) or not.

The brown wire mod cuts into the power wire for the front clutch going to the transfer case and places a switch in series. With the switch set to Off you have only 2WD regardless of where the dash selector switch is set. With the switch turned On the 3 position selector switch on the dash takes control.
