-20°F tomorrow morning

New to me 2006 Expedition. predicting about -21°F tomorrow morning about the time i need to leave for work.

just wondering if there is anything i can do to help it start tomorrow.

not really expecting any troubles, as we had a morning that was about -15°F already and it started up despite a wounded battery.

So i've got a brand new battery, and i plan to put a trickle charger/maintainer on it over night - just because i have one and i can.

And i've got a magnetic oil pan heater i can use, but i'm not sure if there is anywhere to put it on the 5.4 or not. seems like the modulars have an aluminum oil pan, no?

anyway... it's cold outside, and i've got time to kill thinking about stuff like this.

like i said, not really expecting problems, but i don't have a factory block heater on this one, otherwise i'd use that and forget about it.

just wondering what you guys think.

Sorry Mike, the only advice I can offer is if you can get it down here to Anaheim, it's about 77 deg out and that should make it easier.

well ... i had a nice response all typed out and my computer decided to erase it

... so here's the short version....

the oil pan is steel, and there is a nice flat place on the front side of the oil sump that the magnetic heater can stick to. figure that will heat most of the oil.

i'll report back tomorrow for anyone interested, but i'm not expecting any trouble. even without doing anything, i'm sure it would start without incident.

that's the nice thing about fuel injection. unless it gets down below -40° they'll start. below that though, they will need heat, just because of the vapor pressure of gasoline.

77° ?!?!?! how do you guys function in that kind of weather!?!?!? I think i'd get tired of short sleeves and shorts ...
