Will a 6BT fit in a C series? I don't know for sure yet. My 292 should be out of the way next weekend and I've got a VE pump 6BT sitting here on the floor waiting to go in. I'm reasonably sure it will fit, the radiator and intercooler may pose a problem though. My 6BT measures ~44" over all length from fan to the rear surface of the bellhousing. My 292 is either 42 or 43, I forget now. It will be close...

I can do that. I'm not much for doing build threads, but I can post up a picture or two showing whether or not it fits. The other thing that has to be considered is gearing. These old trucks are geared pretty low and the 6BT isn't much for high rpm's. I've got 6:20's in the rear axle and the tires are 39" 's tall. So I picked up a brownie for the O/D. Still may not be quite enough, time will tell. I only get to tinker on weekends, but I'd say by the end of the month I'll have a real good idea if it will fit...

I'm assuming you are building yourself a tool truck? I like the repurposed MAC tools truck box. I hope Cornwell tools have a better margin than Snap On tools does. I tried it briefly...

Well I didn't get nearly as far as I'd planned, but that's typical. It looks to me like the cab will probably need to be modified for engine height. My truck has bucket seats in it, so basically it will have a rased area like a center console between the seats. I am currently trying to sort out the clutch and bellhousing situation. I've about got the cummins/getrag bellhousing done so it will bolt up to the clark 265v59. Then I am going to have to figure out a pilot bearing. The pilot on the input shaft is larger than the hole in the flywheel currently... It looks like a radiator for a '93-ish dodge cummins truck will fit between the frame rails but the intercooler is going to be a challenge. I may mount mine behind the cab. Anyway, I'll keep this updated as I work through this little project.

I have a 5.9L Cummins in a 97 F-800 and it does pretty good. One thing I noticed between that and my old F-700 with a 8.2L DD is that Ford had to extend the firewall back into the cab by about three inches to allow the Cummins I-6 to clear.

I dunno about mounting the intercooler behind the cab. Will it get enough cool air?

Oh, and I had a 292 V-8 in a F-600 for awhile till I blew it up and put a 361 in the truck. I had to buy another truck for parts and an engine core to do the swap.

Lotta work in those trucks!

I agree mounting the intercooler behind the cab is less than ideal. But considering these engines were not always intercooled, I think a guy could get away with it. Maybe put a taurus fan on it that is controlled by boost? I don't know yet. I haven't had the chance to finish sorting my clutch issue yet. 'Tis the season!

It's in there!

So yesterday I set the 6bt in my truck and got it all bolted up to the 265v59 clark 5 speed. It's not mounted yet, but it's sitting there... I was right about the cab interference. The engine is tall enough that the cab won't latch down all the way. I am running bucket seats anyway, so I am going to have to raise the area between the seats for engine and radiator clearance. Think center console... Otherwise I am pretty happy with the fitment so far. I have a pic on my phone, I'll add it to this thread when I get a chance.

I did notice in a specification book I have, that FORD offered the C-160 and 180 6 cylinder diesels in the C-8000 series in 1967,anyway. Wonder how many of those are left?

I've never seen one, but that doesn't mean much. It is my understanding that the extra "0" meant it was a diesel. So a C800 was a gas burner and C8000 would be a diesel. I have seen Detroit 2 stroke V6 diesels in these trucks before but I haven't seen inlines. Interesting to know they did exist.
