Lucas-Girling system
Hello,
I have a 1994 F600 GVWR 21000. Never really worked on big trucks so I don't know what options are out there. It is low mileage truck and I was wondering what my options are in replacing the entire rear axle assy to get rid of the Lucas-Girling system that I currently have. Right now the system works perfectly w/o and problems or leaks. What I would like to do is have a different rear to install when this one starts to give me problems, given the cost of repairs. Is it possible to swap out the rear axle with a system that isn't a Lucas-Girling system? The truck runs great and does everything I need it for, so I hate to get rid of it, but if I have no options with replacing rear axle I may decide to sale it while the braking system is still working.

My buddy had to have his system rebuilt and it cost him $1800. I would like to have a plan (another axle) ready if and when mine quits. I own a garage, but never worked on big trucks so was wondering what my options would be. Can I get a rear (juice not air) from a year that didn't use Lucas-Girling system and swap out the entrie rear axle? Don't see why not but I thought someone on the forum may have first hand experience.

I recently purchased a 83' F 700, 370 4V, 5 speed, 23100 GVW, No Lucas-Girling brakes on this truck,(one reason I Bought it)Has the Manual Emergency Parking Brake handle (next to your left knee on lower Dash) Brake works Great, Has a Rockwell Rear with single line Hydraulic Brakes on it, so I would think your solution to that Braking system is do-able, but you will need another Parking Brake option!
The Parking braking setup on my F700 is on the back of the Clark 5 speed tranny.

The Lucas-Girling brake system was a high maintenance item in our municipal trucks in Cleveland . Our brake vendor came up with loaded backing plates that was ready to bolt on your axle , connect up the brake lines. But sometimes you'd work on them every week.
