I need to remove the cover were the rear audio controls in the center console are. I will be installing a harness (to add an aux. to the stock audio) and also install a bracket for a monitor.
So I need to remove the cover to access the harness and locate an area to affix the bracket. I don't want to break anything...
I have an 02', so has anybody done this before???
I have the Truck CD, but I can't find instructions anywhere for this.
Does your rear console have the flip out cup holders?
If so when it is open there are 4 screws that are accessible. Take these 4 out and then lift up from the bottom slightly, be careful of the wiring harnesses they are kinda tight and on mine were wrapped around this metal hook to keep em tight and from wiggling around.
I found this connector, the brand is Peripheral. Is a jumper that connects to the OEM rear audio control harness (like a bridge, in between the harness plug and the audio control terminal) and the other end of this jumper has 3 audio inputs (RCA plugs). This generates 3 individual auxiliary channels right into the OEM head unit.
I don't have the link to the site with me (I'm at work) but have the info at home and the model and picture of this unit, the cost is like $90.00.
This is what I will buy to hook up my X-Box to the truck ( for DVD source and games).
My setup will be:
300W Power Inverter (Power for X-Box, TV Tuner and 12" Flat Screen)
View Sonic TV Tuner (Plug Flat Screen to it)
12" View Sonic Flat Screen (video source)
Peripheral Connector (To add audio to system)
And everything will be portable, sweet!
I may need another power inverter since the power point in the truck only generates half the capacity of the Amperage times 10, in this case like 10Amp (time 10 = 100W), fuse is rated at 20Amps (half of that is 10 Amps). This info is in your owner manual.
Screen pulls like 60W
X-Box pulls like 100W
TV Tuner like 30W
Dang!! And I paid $99 for that stupid CD Changer harness. I coulda saved $30. I wished I'd known about this site before. Thanks though. So I can put RCA jacks in with the rear controller harness? That's cool. So you can run sound through the stereo, right?
This harness adds three separate auxiliary sources. Well, I guess you can only play on at a time, but remember with the rear audio control unit lets say, you can watch a movie and listen to the audio trought the rear speakers while the front can listen to the radio throught the front speakers or just use the headphone jacks for the back...
sweet thanks for the info, but isn't that just for injecting an audio steam into the factory head unit? I need something that will let me add a video signal to the factory Rear Entertainment System, it has a second set of RCA plugs on it but once you remove the little cover to plug them in you can't put it back on and the wires would be exposed (yuck).
Ideally I would like to yank the VCR and just swap it with a DVD player but all power and video signals to the LCD are on a square ford plug.
