Im swapping a 5 speed mazda m5r2 in to replace my tired 4r70w. I want to make sure that I put in a clutch kit that suites my driving habits best. Any recommendations on specific kits that you all have used with success. I see all these different stage clutches on the internet and am unsure of what stage/type I need. HELP!
I a pretty average driver but do occasionally like to kick it off the line and romp on it on the interstate...
The trans, do you know what year and model it came from? AFAIK, there are two or more variation on the clutch and throw out bearing. If you use the wrong one, your clutch won't work. There are a couple of threads here with that problem.
I would find out the source, and buy a Ford clutch for that exact model and year. Plenty stout for your work imo.
If you want to go aftermarket, you will still have to match it to the year etc.
As for Mazda, I would guess Ford sold more of these transmissions than Mazda did, and the Ford application needs a Ford clutch, so don't waste your time with a Mazda site.
This outfit that I have been buying clutches from these guys for 30+ years is family owned and have used their clutches in many applications from Hot Rods, work trucks & racing applications. Just tell them of any concerns, what you have, etc and they will discuss with you what their recommendations are...I can honestly state that I have never had and issue with anything I have every purchased from them and it always works the 1st time- just like it is suppose to! They typically cost less than most of the competitors, provide 24 hour turn-around and the assemblies always work (literally) just exactly the way they should....I just can't say enough about these guys. Just tell them what you have, how you use it and any concerns/issues.
