Garage door clearance issues. Found out about high lift.
Even though it sounds like it, this is not about clearing the roof of my Ex through the opening. With the Ex in current configuration at 82 inches tall and the door opening at 83 1/2 inches tall, it just scrapes by.
The real issue is that I'm going to put in a 2 post lift in the garage. The ceiling is 11' 3" to the trusses, but the door opening is only 7 ft tall with the rails suspended from the trusses near that height. This means that the door MUST be closed to raise the ex at all.
So I did some searching around and found there is a solution.
I'm sure a lot of you know about this, but for those like me that don't, this is the info you need.
You can put together a high lift conversion for your sectional garage door.
The information and parts can be gotten from these people: (I'm sure a lot of vendors can do it) You need to change your tracks, springs, and cables.
Nice thought. I do not have my lift yet but you idea has merit. I have a 9 foot door with 11 foot ceilings. I am thinking of adding the extensions and one more door panel. This way it will lift with my Martin opener still and I will have the full opening but it will be 18" higher up. My cost should only be the 1 panel and the 2 extensions to the tracks.

Shouldn't have to add another garage panel
Ok but isn't the issue for most people the size of the garage door opening which is based on the trusses in your garage? I know my issue is the clearance at the very edge of my door opening, I could move the door up 4" feet I have the clearance in the ceiling inside the garage but the front of my house would have to be torn out and raised to get it higher. I fit now but barely.

Or you could put low profile tires on the EX.........
So the OP has an interference issue with the garage door opener that runs down the center of the door?
I am one of the ones that has to build a new garage to fit around the Ex....Will have to keep this in mind.

Ouch! I would hate to pay to raise that garage door. All that brick fascia to replace.
Yes, for most people it is the height of their ceiling.
Like you, I have plenty of room to raise my door if needed. I barely fit through my door but that is fine for now. I only have vinyl siding out there now. so the cost would be way less than yours.
The problem for me is that I can't use a 2 post lift and raise the excursion at all with the door opened. The Garage door when opened is just a couple of inches over the Ex as is stands now. Getting the door close to the 11' ceiling would get it out of my way. On hot and cool days I would rather work with the door open. Winter days the door would stay closed of course.

No, I don't have any real issues with the central door opener I have. I would clear it by 3 to 4 inches even lifting the Ex. My garage is a 2 bay with a single 16 foot door. The lift will be centered in on one of the door bays. (4 foot from edge of door opening) so I just drive it in.
The Jackshaft opener is a requirement of the High Lift door design. Chain or screw type will not work with it. they need to be just above the door opening.
Even though the Ex when on the lift would not be in the way of the opener, getting rid of the monster hanging in space in the garage does have nice appeal!! It is UGLY!
Any and all garage door retailers will have the option.
I didnt go into the link, but I'm hoping you went thru someone like that.
I have this info, but I also do sell em, albeit not a lot at this point in time, but in my mind the jack shaft opener is the only way to go, and REALY they are not that more expensive.
