What oil for the 6.0

So I just recently bought my first Super Duty and my first diesel. I am about ready to complete my first service on it and was wondering what oil everyone runs. I was thinking of running T5 Shell Rotella in15w40. Most seem to like this oil but is it good for a 2006 6.0? I was wanting to run Motor craft filters for oil and fuel but can't find them at wally world. Do you have to get them at the dealer?

Rotella in T5 (USA) is either 10W30 or 10W40.

Rotella T is 15W40

Rotella T6 is 5W40 and soon 0W40

If you drive enough I would say 15W40 in Summer and 5W40 October to April. If you drive a lot, I would toss in T5 10W30 Fall and Spring.

Or run the 5W40 year round.

The truck will be driven mostly in summer pulling a race trailer. It will be used sparingly in winter, basically to keep things lubed up. That is why I was leaning toward the rotella 15w40.

Just keep in mind the 6.0 and 15W40 do not get along very well in the winter cold, unless you plug in.

Not sure where you live as that may not be a concern. A truck used sparingly and occasionally in the cold I would actually lean towards 5W40.

What is your definition of cold? Below 20*? Below 32*?

You will want a 5W40 or 10W30 in temps under 32 unplugged. 15W40 will need to be plugged in for those temps.

I run Delo400 15w40LE and it treats me well. Seldom gets below 35° though.

I run mobil 15-40 because I get it for free if you are towing specially in the summer definately run 15-40. Winter I will run 5-40 since I don't have a lot of access to plugging it in and definately don't want to be stuck at work. 15-40 does alright down to 0 it doesn't really like it but it will start that's why I switched to 5-40 in the winter

If you look at all the oils they are all the same. I use to run John Deere plus 50 figured if I can get mobile free might as well go with that

ATF before an oil change

Please allow me to piggy back on your thread. I have an '03 F-250 powerstroke...Im due for an oil change and a friend of mine heard that adding a 1/2 or full qt. of ATF to motor and running for a few days before you drain old oil will clean the heck out of engine....anyone ever try this?....Good ? bad? your thoughts.....Thanks

Good motor oil will clean it enough....keep the ATF out of your engine. Your injectors will thank you.

Wrong, 5W40 is fully capable of running in high temps while towing. That's the purpose of the 40 rating. The 5 rating is for cold temps. 5W40 actually has a wider useable spectrum than the 15W40.
