So I just recently bought my first Super Duty and my first diesel. I am about ready to complete my first service on it and was wondering what oil everyone runs. I was thinking of running T5 Shell Rotella in15w40. Most seem to like this oil but is it good for a 2006 6.0? I was wanting to run Motor craft filters for oil and fuel but can't find them at wally world. Do you have to get them at the dealer?
The truck will be driven mostly in summer pulling a race trailer. It will be used sparingly in winter, basically to keep things lubed up. That is why I was leaning toward the rotella 15w40.
5-40 all year round first # is just cold pour temp still 40w , Just don't let your truck sit too long drive it atleast once a week to keep the turbo from sticking

I run mobil 15-40 because I get it for free if you are towing specially in the summer definately run 15-40. Winter I will run 5-40 since I don't have a lot of access to plugging it in and definately don't want to be stuck at work. 15-40 does alright down to 0 it doesn't really like it but it will start that's why I switched to 5-40 in the winter
Please allow me to piggy back on your thread. I have an '03 F-250 powerstroke...Im due for an oil change and a friend of mine heard that adding a 1/2 or full qt. of ATF to motor and running for a few days before you drain old oil will clean the heck out of engine....anyone ever try this?....Good ? bad? your thoughts.....Thanks

Wrong, 5W40 is fully capable of running in high temps while towing. That's the purpose of the 40 rating. The 5 rating is for cold temps. 5W40 actually has a wider useable spectrum than the 15W40.
