Started w/ PO306 & 316 - changed 6 plug. Then PO 303 & 316. Replaced all plugs, wires, & air filter. Now 303 & 316 are back. Engine misses, understand 316 indicates start up problem.
Lights would stay off for a day or two between work, but misfire really never seemed to go away. Detection of misfire at start-up now seems to be worse than it has been.
Changing fuel filter and adding Techron this afternoon.
I see its an 06 Ranger with between 50-75K miles on it, so its within the troubled time frame & mileage for problems like that to arise, so do a cyl balance & compression test as outlined in the link Rockledge posted & let us know what you find.
Is this a flex fuel 3.0L????? If so, are you using E-85????
Since our "waste spark" ignition system puts a double work load on its components & thus is kinda persnickety about its plugs & wires design, what brand plugs & wires did you use????
Yah, I kinda thought it must be an out of country Ranger if its a 2014, or a typo on the year, but found it was an 06 on his personal info page, so it fit right in with the info your link.
With the P0316 random misfire on the first 1000 start up revs & it being a 3.0L, the cam sensor & sync assy probably belong on his suspect list too, especially if its making a noise, or has lots of miles on it.
If he just bought it used from a Dealer, take that puppy back & let them deal with it under what ever warranty that might be in place.
