302 wont start, no spark
1942 Ford Pickup
73' Maverick 302(rebuilt) - C4 Trans(rebuilt)
I am getting barely any spark coming out of the coil wire. It has a ignitor points eliminator kit on it. I have replaced the coil already. When i unplug the points kit, i get 12.4V at both the + and - on the coil. When i hook the + of the eliminator kit to the + of coil, i still get 12.4 on both sides of the coil. But when i put the - wire from the kit to the - side of the coil, my volts drop all the way to almost 0 Volts and i loose spark and the coil starts to get really really HOT. this is all with the key to the "ON" position.
I thought the elminator kit was bad, so i bough brand new points and a condensor and installed those in the distributor. The same thing happens when i try to wire the points wire to the - side of the coil. Everytime i try and hook anything from from the distributor to the coil, i loose all volts and spark.
What could i possiably be missing??
just throwing things out there, nothing worse than tracking down electrical problems.
