What is the axle code on the door tag? If you dont have one of them, pop the diff cover off and count teet.

I thought you could jack the truck up and spin the tires and compare to driveshaft rotations

This is the easiest if you can't find your tag. Tag should be on one of the diff cover bolts. Also if you're going off RPM, what size tires are you running?

A lot :-) !!!!! Thanks for all replies! Door tag says 35 - should 4:10 .. Was hoping 3:73 .. Will also check diff bolt also.. Great truck but was told it was a 3:73 and that really wasn't what I was concerned about when buying as for looking at issues..

The only way it has 3.73's is if they were swapped. Factory didn't do that ratio in these years. So what RPM are you turning?

You have 4.10

The rear axle is a sterling 10.25

I'm sure Mike meant sterling 10.25. Are you talking about the seal in the trans or the rear end?

Rear axle/driveshaft seal.. pinion seal - I know it will be said has to oretty good inch pound torque for bearing life.. I know a lot of dodge cummins truck that say just mark the bolt/shaft, count threads, put in new crush washer and add 1/8 - 1/4 turn.. :-)...

ps: My other truck is a 2004.5 2500 5.9L 48RE with $$$ TRANS

No.replace it.when you reinstall the nut.blue lictite it and only torque by hand.NO impact...i use a standard length ratchet (12" or so) total and tighten it as much as i can.that way you can never crush the sleve any more than ut was before.done hundreds like that with zero comebacks.
