So, I'm driving on the interstate with the family going to a funeral for Grandma. Traffic in front of us comes to a screeching halt for no apparent reason. Truck with trailer two cars in front of us starts to lose the trailer. Me and the car behind him are doing all we can not to plow into the trailer when I get nailed from behind by an 07 F250. He hits us at about 60 while we had slowed to about 30. Everyone is ultimately OK...just a bunch of sore necks and scared kids.
Take my X to the body shop to get it fixed. They say they can't get the back doors anywhere. They will have to try and get lucky and find them USED! Anybody else have this problem in the recent past? I cannot believe they aren't available ANYWHERE!!!! They just quit making these things in 05! Damage is at $5000 so far. I'm a little angry at Ford for not having parts available only 8 years after production stopped. That is pretty sorry in my book.
I'd be calling some other body shops... You're in Texas. Just a guess, but would imagine the salvage yards have more wrecked Excursions there than most places.
with Hennessy AND CABT among others cutting up good Excursions for parts, it's going to be fun. The Excursion was a relatively limited run vehicle, demand for body parts is not high, so no one makes the Excursion specific parts from the rear passenger doors back. If it doesn't fit something else, it's not available aftermarket and OE sources are more than likely already depleted. Almost NOONE makes aftermarket fiberglass body parts, it's kinda hard to stamp those in China.
I'm very glad to hear that you and your family are OK.
This is one of my biggest fears with the Excursion - I *love* this truck and I really don't want an accident where I need parts that simply aren't available anymore. I swear to god I'm going to just buy some 300K Ex with a decent body and store it just so I have body parts if I need them (and I live in a desert).
Are you looking at Car-Parts.com? I see quite a few doors on there including complete sets in the $700 range.
I shall post some pics of the X. I didn't take any of the F250 while waiting in the fast lane of the interstate for DPS. His radiator, bumper and hood were wrecked. He center-punched my license plate with the drivers side tow loop.
I did find quite a few sets as well on autopartsfair.com, so I am not sure why the body shop told me they were "going to have to get lucky" and find some used ones. Maybe they were talking about finding them in Toreador red...? I still think it stinks there are no more OEM "new" sets available anywhere. That should not be...
Here are some low-light pics. On the surface, the fiberglass doesn't look too bad. However, structurally, they were severely compromised. The only saving grace was that I was still moving forward when he hit me. The bumper is pushed up against the fuel tank, but just barely. I don't think there is any significant damage to the tank...just the outer shell that protects it. You can see his grill imprinted on the right rear door. The hit was bumper to bumper. If he would have had a brush guard, my X would be totaled most likely.
A small car or minivan would have certainly been totaled by this impact. I feel very good about the level of damage the X sustained in light of how very hard we were hit. My neck is still sore 5 days later.

I believe that it would, but a smaller car would have done a better job managing the force of the impact. Unibody cars do a phenomenal job of managing crash energy, and you would likely have fared better as a result. Of course you'd also be shopping for a new car as well!
