We are almost ready to try and start our project, a 62 f100 with a 223, but while replacing the original starter, a question came up.
Does the correct starter drive gear extend toward the starter motor when voltage is connected (like our 62 Falcon), or is it an 'overrunning clutch drive', that as I understand it just allows the gear, but not the starter motor, to rotate with the flywheel when the engine is running.
We have two starter motors and attached starter drives, and neither seems to extend when voltage is applied and the starter motor rotates (the starters are not bolted to the engine, of course, during this test)
