Cab Mount replacement

So my cab mounts are definitely rusting but i dont know the extent of the rust, should i cut the spot welds and pull them and repair any cancerous spots or should i just replace them entirely?

I have been looking around and i cant seem to find anyone that sells new front body mounts for my 63, the closest they have is the cab floor support and those are nearly $200 a pair from NPD

There's more places to find them too. I think C2C out of Detroit makes them and some others. It's pretty common. I'll be doing mine too eventually. I remember seeing them listed by one maker for $55 a piece. On something with such a particular shape, I wouldn't recommend patching/repairing them. The best way to be confident that you have a solid mount would be to swap the whole thing out.

Of course. This site has helped me find tons of good info and deals. I'm glad to contribute when I can. I know there are more places too. There is a thread on here somewhere with pics of someone doing there's also. If I can remember who had them cheaper, I'll post that up too. Just post up pics when you get around to it so I can learn from your experience when I finally get to mine!

I will definitely post up when i install them. Im tired of chasing down rust in this truck (already replaced the cowl corners, the steps and the rockers and shaved the drip rails), I need to replace the front few inches of the bed floor and the cross member beneath it, need to replace the front cab mounts, and i still need to repair rust in my radiator support. If i can get all of those spots fixed i figure that might help with costs when it comes time to take it to a body shop for paint (more than a few years down the road)

Sometimes I wish I had the oodles of cash it would take to just have the whole thing sand blasted or "dipped" and take care of all the rust in one fell swoop. Oh well, I guess it gives me something to do to keep my hobby going.

Definitely agree there, mines my daily driver tho so even tho i would love to get it dipped and not worry about it anymore i cant afford to have my truck down for more than a couple days at a time

I understand you can remove everything you do not want sand blasted and cover the windows and trailer it to get sand blasted for $700 to $1000.

This is according to body shops in the area, it also includes the green etcher or one coat of light primer to protect the metal until you get time to work on it. These are Arkansas City, Kansas and Wichita sand blast quotes as per the body shops in the area.

I went with hiring a total grind off of all old paint as $700 can buy a lot of paint remover supplies but looking back, I wish I had done the sandblast route to help preserve the metal.

$700 is not that bad for a lot of sand blasting and a primer coat. Not the kind of cash ix could drop every day, bit for something like that. If o could find a place in San Diego for that much, I would. Might have to make a few more calls.

Yeah if I could find a shop to do that up here in Ventura county I'd do that in a heart beat. Might have to look into that and see what's up here. I wanna get the mechanics done first tho, still have a few things left
