I apologize because I'm sure this is found somewhere but I searched 16 pages and gave up! It's these aftermarket chrome mirrors from the big F100 suppliers. I've had my F 100 since the mid 1980's and I am tired of buying and rebuying these mirrors that the head loosens up and won't stay adjusted.
I'm a bit skeptical about buying another set because it'll probably just happen again. Sad thing is that the chrome is still great but the mirror head just won't stay in place. I do like the mirrors but only for about the first year! Ideas would be appreciated!
Most of those mirrors can be tightened if you remove the glass, there should be a screw/bolt that you could put some loctite on and re-tighten. If you can't get the glass out a local glass shop should be able to do it for you.
I busted the glass out and replaced with new because the glass was cheaper than buying a whole new mirror. I also got the "vehicles are closer than they appear" mirror for the right side too :-).

I took off both mirrors today and broke the glass out. The large quarter size nut/screw confused me but I finally figured it out. On both mirrors-the screw/nut was as tight as possible so I backed them out and used a very small washer to pick up the slack between the ball and screw.
I did have four mirrors made in case there's any future problems. I think the total was a bit over $20 for the four. Anyway- the mirrors are sitting waiting for the adhesive to dry before I do the reinstall. Again- Thanks!
