I HAVE A 49 FORD F1 TRUCK, I AM LOOKING TO BUY A FORD CAR OR TRUCK THAT I CAN PULL A 302 W/CARB, C4 TRANS AND A REAR AXLE THAT WOULD BE BEST FIT, NOT TOO WIDE OR TOO NARROW, ANYONE HAVE A ESTIMATE OF WHAT YEAR, MAKE & MODEL WOULD WORK THE BEST? ALSO LOOKING TO SELL THE ORIGINAL FLATHEAD 6, FLOOR SHIFT TRANS & REAR AXLE, franksgym@yahoo.com I'M IN CENTRAL CALIF
Excellent! I found a 71 F100 with a 302 & C4, looking to use complete frame, frame width is exactly the same but may need to shorten...looks like this frame will be sold along with engine, Trans & rear axle...
That is what I was looking to do with mine, but going to try the running gear that came in the truck when I got it first (289,C4, 9").
The only thing to watch for is some of the rear ends were actually a 9 3/8" instead of the 9". They still work fine, but parts don't interchange with the 9". Easy way to tell is the webbing cast into the front of the case. On a 9" the webs run horizontal, where on the 9 3/8", one of the top ones slopes down at the end. Again, they both will work.
Look at the 3rd picture down in this thread and you can see the upper web on the right slopes down at the end.
