Chevy Rocker Arm question

Who has done the chevy rocker swap on a 300 head? Am I correct in reading other threads that this is just a unbolt and bolt in application to get some additional lift?

I believe on you 80 model it will be pretty much plug and play. On the newer engines, not so much. Just going on what I have read though, no real life experience with the swap.

Im also looking into doing the cheby lifters. I guess my biggest concern is the wear on the valve guides. How hard is it to put new guides in while your doing the lifters, or is it more of a project then someone who has to ask should take on?

Not having done it myself I woud think that you would need to take the head off to drive the old guides out and replace.

I did the GM rockers before I did the cam swap. It is actually a seat of pants improvement, and a great low buck mod. Even with a cam, I have no coil bind. It is that easy, except with mine, it made the rockers adjustable. Some engines will allow you to torque the adjuster nut all the way down.

Thanks for the confirm,I guess thats what I was looking for someone who had done the swap, and has had some miles on the chevy rockers. When you did the cam swap what did you put in, and have you done any other head work?

I have about 2 years on the swap with all good. The cam is from Oregon Cam Grinding(274 adv duration/.518" lift). With cam and lifters, $137 to my door. No mods to the head. I wish it was decked and ported.
