I happen to be one of the few folks (apparently) that actually likes the air suspension! I take it since you mention just the rear, you have a 2wd? We have the 4wd and replaced everything in the suspension in the past couple years. The rear bags we used aftermarket and have a year or so of 75% towing a 6-7k trailer. I think the rear bags were from Suncore (not at home so don't have the file folder on the Expy handy). I bought those off ebay and I just looked and there are both 4wd and 2wd A/M ones available for $110 shipped.
If you change the load regularly like we do, the Air Suspension is second to none. Just my $.02 so you can look at both sides.... I would sell the truck before I'd go to a conventional suspension on it...
I did the swap from air to coil on my wife's expedition right after we bought it. I got the kit from rockauto.com and I think is was around 175.00 or so. Quality Monroe parts and really easy to install expect for the drivers side reae (damn fuel tank).
Progressive suspension has the kits for rear air systems for Fords, Lincolns, Mercury. I took my air bags out after a complete failure because it was almost $1,000.00 to replace the entire system. They include all the instructions it took me about 2 1/2 hrs to swap the air bags for the coils and shocks. I like the ride better.
