I ordered some parts for the rear axle of my '96 back in July. Some I got right away and the last few just got in today. Going to pick 'em up and hopefully install tomorrow. Rear axle blocks and u-bolts. The spring perches for the rear came in back in July, but no point in installing them without the blocks and u-bolts. Then I'll finally have her back to the condition she was before all the summer carnage. I'm using a chassis cab rear axle from a parts truck to replace the SRW axle that I've had in the truck since July.
Need to pick up a couple wheel studs and new e-brake cables in town as well, but at least they're in stock.
It'll be good to be able to use the 4x4 again. Now I just need tires.
Morris, not a warm shop, but at least indoors with a good floor.
Sheldon, I'll be getting the same Goodyear wrangler hummer take-offs that I had on before, just with some actual tread.
One thing I didn't think of was that the Chassis cab axle is the same width as the SRW axle. So, it's about 5 " narrower than the DRW axle. At least I'll have the right gear ratio now. I'm out of spare axles, so I'll have to keep my eyes out for a good wreck in the next year or so. Roll-over or burnt, so it's cheap.
I need the truck together for next weekend. No problem now. We've got some friends coming up from Houston, TX for a couple day and need to show them some Prairie redneck winter games. I'll try to get some pics for you guys.
Not quite done. The wheel studs and the parking brake cables were the wrong ones. Also, I mis-calculated with the blocks I ordered. They were 4" lift blocks an bolts. So, I'll end up a litter higher than I had planned. I was thinking just the 4" stock blocks, so when the bolts were a mile long, I was kinda confused. Now I get it. Also, my shocks are too short and I had to lose the anti-sway bar. Again, pics when it's done.
Turns out, the cables worked and I managed to steal a few wheel studs form another axle.
It's in and set up. Just need to fill it and put the driveshaft back on. Apparently, I didn't think to get gear oil..... Oh well, not a biggie. At least she's ready to go, sorta.
Got the brakes bled and she's done. Hooked up to my garbage/coal trailer and found it had a flat. It's always something. Changed out and waiting for the phone call from my coal supplier. Hope he calls this morning. I just ran out.
