Excursion middle row - bench seat - center seatbelt lap or shoulder??

This will sound like a stupid question for someone who owned a 2005 model for several years, when we used our (bench seat) back seat, the center spot was always a kiddie car seat, and I cannot remember if it was a lap-belt only or is there a center seat shoulder belt. Can someone let me know please?

I have the itch to get back into an Ex and weighing motor and interior possibilities. The kids are older now, youngest is just coming ouf his car seat, so the shoulder harness is a pretty big deal. To the point I would rather rely on the 3rd row than put a kid in the middle with a lap belt, and if go that route, may as well look for a captains chair interior....

Thanks for letting me know, and any thoughts are welcome....Geoff.

The center seats (middle and third row) only have lap belts.

I have thought about this a bunch as I have three kids and they like to put down the middle seat in my wife's Expedition and all ride in the back seat. The Expedition has middle seat shoulder belts.

For the Excursion I have been looking at the following shoulder belt add on...........

86Y Universal Harness for Family Vehicles - E-Z-ON Products, Inc. of Florida

Thanks for the feeback...I thought so. Funny how needs change with the times:

First 2005X I owned had the rear chairs - only had twin girls at the time, rear chairs were perfect. Then that X got hit by a teenage driver and totalled, protecting us all very well including pregnant wife at the time.

Second/replacment X - another 2005 but got the rear bench so all 3 kids could sit there together in case we had the rear/3rd row out for hauling stuff. Sold that one couple years ago after getting rid of our camper, hindsight maybe shouldn't have but did...

Now missing it and looking for another, and youngest is out of the kiddie seat and never occurre to me until now that the center lap belt would be an issue. Esp after totaling the first, I'm a believer that you need the right belts for all and thinking rear chairs and leave the 3rd row in all the time.

Your comment about my signature, I never changed after the first X and didn't think about that until now either! I really hated that 1999 suburban!

Tim, that is a cool option if needed...I have not seen that before. Seems like an easy conversion.

Thanks,
Geoff.

Tim,

That looks real good, but i wondered where would that hook up? Are there LATCH hooks somewhere in our Ex? Those LATCH hooks were designed for car carriers and babyseats and that type of system would be great.

But I cant think of WHERE this seat harness would connect? Maybe theres more pics i didnt see. ......

Thanks,
Karl

I believe the center seat on the third row has a tether hook down towards the bottom and that is where it would hook up. The seat belt goes through the two loops on the other end.

I think I will pick one up and let everyone know if its worth it. They don't have it in stock near me and its a 7-10 day lead time.
If I order today it will be a few weeks before I can update but it could be a good thing for all of us that want shoulder belts in that middle seat.
I will test how it fits in both the second and third row.

For those interested .... I did mention I was going to pick up one of these to see if it is worth getting.

I ordered it yesterday so I will get it in 7-10 days. I will post picks of it and let you know what I think.

It may be a nice alternative to only having the lap belt.

Ok, I finally got the seat belt and had one of my kids model it for me. Here are some pics.

Here is my 8 year old son modeling it for me.

Here is how it connects to the anchors on the back side of the middle seat.

I believe this will also work on the third row middle seat since it also has the anchor for a car seat.

It sure is better than nothing especially for the older kids in that middle seat.

I have three and they tend to want to sit in the back row all together.

We usually have to break them apart between the middle and back row so they all would have a shoulder belt.

I have not used it on a road trip or for any length so I am not sure if its bothersome on the kids.
