I was over on another forum yesterday and seen that another person has had this same problem.
About two weeks ago I was washing the F250 and noticed that my coolant was black and not the normal orange color. I took it to the dealer to have it checked and two mechanics came out, one with a flashlight and they said the color inside the tank is still orange. I asked if they had seen this issue before and they said as long as the coolant strips test okay then the coolant would be fine. Neither one would say if anyone else has had this problem. The strips read that the coolant was okay, my question is if anyone else has had this problem and if anyone has, was there anything leaking into the coolant?
Mine looks dark purple from outside the tank.
I grab a flash light and check on it when I check other things over.
Still orange on the inside.
I asked my dealer the same question when I had the transmission solenoids replaced.
They checked the coolant and it was in good shape but never have heard an answer.
Does this on my 6.4 as well as many other 6.4's. something about the breakdown of the coolant over time staining the plastic. I used a turkey baster to draw out about 12-14 oz and mine was still a beautiful gold color.
