Question for the '57-'60 experts

Hello again,

I’m going to look at a 1959 (US) 1964 (Brazil) F100 today.
I’d like to ask all the experts here, if there is anything in special to check on those trucks, before buying them. I haven’t seen it yet. All I know is that it is blue/white, it hasn’t been started in 10 years, and they want $500 for it.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
Lobo

Question for the '57-'60 experts

Lobo,
Obviously, you can't fault them for a good amount of wear and tear + rust. Things that I found hard to find/replace on my '59:
front mesh grill with F-O-R-D letters; a straight tailgate that latches well; vent window parts; rear bumper; dashboard *****/bezels. All the mechanical and electrical is "iffy" due to the age of these trucks. Steering, brakes, suspension components, a COMPLETE engine... are all bonuses if the trucks you're goint to go look at have.

Either way, you can't go too wrong for $500, even if it turns out to be a parts truck!
Hope it turns out to be a sweet deal for you,
Daryl

Question for the '57-'60 experts

Daryl, thank you very much! I hope everything turns out ok too! I really am looking forward on buying it.

I’ll check all those things out. I know it is an old truck, that’s been used, maybe even abused, I’m not expecting much. I just asked that, because it is easier to find big problems, when you know where to look at.

I called the owner a couple minutes ago. It wasn’t easy to find him home. He told me truck was used to carry parts around, for a racecar. When he sold the racecar, he never used the truck again. He told that the last time he used the truck it was running perfect. He also said that it has all the chrome/details, and some rust spots on lower corner of the driver’s side door. He owns a company that builds buses, and he needs the space where the truck and some other cars are to store new bus chassis. That’s why he’s selling it cheap.
I’ll tell you how it goes, after I go over there.

Again, thank you very much!
Lobo

Lobo 2, The only things rust wise on these trucks that might be a problem and un seen is the front cab mounts below your feet, and the radiator core support. Most of the other stuff is obvious.

Question for the '57-'60 experts

Hi Lobo,
Very good info from both Daryl, and 57_ford. I agree that you really can't go wrong for $500.00, even if it were a "parts truck".

Most of the more "rare" or hard to find items can usually be found by searching on E-bay, but they can be a bit pricey at times.

Good luck!

Question for the '57-'60 experts

Thanks everybody for the inputs! These answers were very helpful!
I checked the truck yesterday. I couldn’t tell it’s been parked for 10 years. He washed it and the original paint isn’t in bad shape. The engine is not stuck, and everything is there. Not a piece of chrome is missing. It even has all 4 hubcaps. The only rust spot I could find, were a couple bubbles where he told me, on the driver’s side door. There is only one thing that is still holding the deal. He can’t remember where the title is, and here in Brazil, if you buy a car with no title, it’s a stolen car until you prove it’s yours. So, we will meet again next week, and hopefully, he will have the title, and I will have a new truck!
Thanks again everybody!
Lobo
