what glow plug relay are you guys having the best luck with
Hey everybody.
Like most of you here I have to replace my glow plug relay. I checked it with a test light and nothing on the "out" side like usual. I am just wondering if people here have found one particular source or brand of relay that seems to get the most miles. It is not like these things are dirt cheap and I figure if I am going to replace it might as well get the best even if it costs a bit more.
Also what is the reliability of the intake heater and relay on these? Should I just replace both relays together. Mine is working, I can hear it shut off and there is power on both sides when I turn the key on (unlike the glow plug relay).
The truck still starts great but as much as we hate to admit it the cold weather is right around the corner.. especially here in Wisconsin...
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!
$56.05 this is the replacement for the stancor at Mouser. .
i don't know what is up, White-Rodgers may have bought out Stancor.
when i try to enter the Stancor part number on any electronics site, it switches over to the W-R part number
A few people I know have picked up GPR's at a place called Moonlight diesel. I just picked one up from their ebay store. here's the link. eBay My World - moonlightdiesel
Everyone I know has not had an issue with them.
I may be in the minority here but I've never had any trouble with the GP relay in any of my personal or work trucks. They all have the OEM relays still....
If I ever run into an issue then I'll just swap over the AIH relay since that relay hardly ever gets any use.
Same here Greg. My GPR took a dump last year, and with the AIH already deleted, i swapped over the wires to that relay and walah, gpr led lit up again.
GPR-109... Walk into your local napa, give them THIS PART number. Do not ask for a relay for a powerstroke or they will sell you a $70 relay.
GPR-109... $28 for one. Same one on three motors...
the GPR-109 will work, but at least here in the northeast, the GPR-109 will only last about a year before it burns out. the stancor has lasted over 6 years now in one of my trucks.

I live in the same climate you do... And travel to much worse. No issue what so ever with a GPR-109...
If you want to pay more for the same thing, then go for it.

well, Joe, i actually paid more for the GPR-109.
i have bought 3 of them over the past 5 years for one truck only because when i need the truck to start i need it rite away. but the next time it does not start this december or january it is getting the 586-911 that is sitting on the shelf in the garage put on.
1 stancor for $56 or 3 GPR-109's at $24.99 each, it is a no brainer. the stancor is cheaper. .
The easy answer is move to a warm climate. I'm still on my factory relay at 415,000 miles.
If you're worried about cost and longevity, why not just wire up your own push button switch to energize the glow plugs? That way you're in complete control and don't have to worry about a relay going out.
