Forged or PMR rods?
How can I tell what I have in my 2001 7.3? Can the VIN number tell?

I just got off the phone with David Lott, owner of Diesel Innovations. He has a link under "Diesel Tech" on his site with pictures that explains the same BUT I can't tell the difference from one to the other through that little hole.

I know it's a long shot on the 2001 to have forged but can the VIN number tell?

btw, I just realized you posted the link to diesel innovations site.

I would not trust the Vin number for my block...

Pull the plug, and look.

2001...95% its PMR's

I looked at mine before someone told me its only 01's that need to check. But it took a bit to see, had to have someone in the truck tap the key to get it to move into view.
