NOS 1984 Ford F-SERIES PICKup sales brochure

My son has a 1984 F150 with 4.9L engine which he loves dearly. I had the opportunity to get this brochure and will give it to him to keep with his truck. As I looked through it, I was pleased to read what was published in 1984 and thought I would share a few tidbits. It covers most models, so if anyone has a question, fire away!

"The 4.9L Six is now controlled by the sophisticated EEC-IV electronic engine control system (trucks under 8,500 lb. GVWR). EEC-IV: Intelligent Management of Power. A computer, EEC-IV has the ability to digest an astonishing number of engine control commands - thousands of commands per second! With this capacity, EEC-IV provides instaneous precise control over engine operation throughout the full range of driver commands and engine load conditions. It's features include: SELF TEST - to aid in system diagnostics; SPARK CONTROL - for precise ignition timing throughout the range of engine operation; "KEEP ALIVE" MEMORY - to adjust engine functions based on component wear".

Recommended oil change interval for the 4.9L was 10,000 miles.

Interesting reading!

Huh, I always thought the 4.9L went EFI in '87 when the Bricknose trucks came out.

Yep, and it works pretty good if it hasn't been butchered up and maintained.

Nice, pardon my ignorance; I've never seen a truck with that system. Lot to be learned through the old brochures... I buy one ether repop or NOS for every old Ford I get, just for referance.

My truck is "controlled by the sophisticated EEC-IV electronic engine control system". Neat, thanks for sharing!

I can attest to that. My truck has that system and it works great, as long as it is maintained.

How exactly does it work? I think I have an idea, but not 100% on it.

Ah. I have a better understanding of it now. I had no idea they ever run anything like that on a carb. Always learning something new. I looked up a bit on google, and seen there was a bit of a struggle on the processor, ram, etc.
