I have a 98 Expedition 5.4L that will start everyday but if you drive it or let it idle to normal running temp it will not restart until next day. I have replaced the elbow at the back of the intake and it ran better for a day or two, I have replaced all the elbows (3) that extend down by the pcv. I am really confused no check engine light, no codes, also when it stalls the rpms fall to 100 or lower when the gas pedal is to the floor.
Could be any one of several things: Fuel delivery problem (pump, filter, or vent) or an electrical problem that removes the power needed to operate the engine's computer.
Try removing the fuel cap the next time it stalls. Report what happens then and when a restart is attempted.
When in "failure mode", do you hear the fuel pump run for 1-2 seconds when the key is first turned to RUN (not START)?
When in "failure mode", does the check engine light properly come on when the key is first turned to RUN (not START)?
You'll need to report more detailed observations.
Alloro,
A faulty EGR system would be an interesting fault. I haven't run into that one before. What failure mode in that system would be most likely to cause these symptoms? Maybe a stuck-open EGR valve, perhaps? Always looking to learn something new.
