Chapter 10 in my haynes 1980-96 ford truck manual has a picture of a Dana 50 TTB with a crome diff cover I was not aware that any of the TTB diffs had removable covers has anyone seen one of these, is this custom. I would like a removable cover on my Dana 50 but cant find any information about it
I had never noticed that - what sharp little eyes you have! Looking closer, it seems that it's a cover mounted on top of the regular bolts because you can still see THEM below it. I'm guessing it's like a rock shield, but I don't know why the fill plug looks like it's in that shield. I'd expect just a raised spot there.
I've never seen one, but if you look at the rear cover, you'll see that it's an '89-91 F-250. The grille ornament & bodyside moulding tell me it's not an '87-88.
Someone has spent too much time in their shop manual . Good eye, though.
It appears to me that it has been added to the picture. In my book, the shading isn't right and it doesn't appear to be able to attach to anything because I can see the drop in bolt heads under the cover bolts. It looks like a factory Dana 44 or 60 diff cover. OK, so who is going to email Haynes and tell them that their F250 doesn't have that cover and they want to know why
BTW, the truck pictured on the back of mine is not the same one that is in the "offending" picture. It is a 2wd.
Oops! You're right. I didn't look at the hubs. I saw it was a 250 and just assumed it was the one they used for the front suspension picture. That steering damper looks aftermarket, so I think that's an aftermarket diff shield.
