What AC parts are the same for a 1996 F350 gasser and a 1997 Powerstroke?
In another thread I alluded to the fact that I was in the process of picking up a parts truck for the wheels and to switch my 1997 F350 XL to an XLT. Well, I would also like to add AC to the truck as well. I was originally thinking that i would add a kit from "ackits" as the installation of one of their systems seems pretty straightforward which is exactly what I'm looking for. However, since I'm going to have this parts truck which has AC already, I'm wondering if I can take some of the AC parts from the parts truck and add AC to my Powerstroke. I really don't want to get into any fab work so if it's not something that I can just add like it came from the factory then it probably isn't something that I'm going to do and will probably stick to the basically plug and play ackit setup. However if it turns out that the situation is something like only the compressor being different on an AC equipped Powerstroke vs. an AC equipped gasser, then I might be interested. If I can scavenge most of the parts from this parts truck and have them be the same as my current ride then I would imagine that I have the chance to save a bunch of money. Thanks in advance for the advice.
Check RockAuto.com s site w/ the info for ea truck, but I believe the compressor, condensor, evaporator & dryer are all the same. I believe the only things that are different are the actual AC lines as ea motors compressor mount points may be in different locations (except 5.0 & 5.8 L).
