1947 Ford Pickup Questions

I have a 1947 Ford Pickup. Vin # 71GC378579 License Plate# 37931T
Is it a 1947 1/2 Ton?
Is it a F1 or F100?

Engine serial # T1118CPL
Can some one give me info on the Engine, I think its a Chevy Engine.

How much is the truck worth?

If you can give me more information about the truck it would be very useful.
See Pictures on 47 Ford Pickup Album
My father purchased it in 1995 but he passed away in 2005 and I want to sell it.

The VIN tells us that this truck was originally a 6 cylinder, its a half ton, and its neither a F1 or F100, those did not exist until the '48 model year, basically, you would just call yours a pickup. As far as the engine goes, with that number I don't know, pix would be best way to id it.
Oh, and welcome to FTE, hope we can provide the help you need with the truck

Thank you for the info. I put a pic of the engine on the 1947 Ford Pickup Album. From what I remember the man who sold the pickup to my dad had told him it was a chevy engine. I looked it up and it says its either a 305 or 267.

Is my truck a 1947 or 1937. Its confusing because the bin has 37 in it and so does the license plate.

Google a pic of a 37, then a pic of a 47, you should be able to tell than.

From what I see from the s/n, it looks like you've got a '47 alright. 71GC designates a '47 pickup with a 6 cylinder engine (I'm fairly certain). My own truck is a 79C which is a pickup with 59A v-8.

For sure you have a '47, not a '37. The license plate you mention, if it's from the state the truck is registered in, would not tell you the year of the truck from the numbers. As for the F1 designation, those who are calling any '47 or older Ford truck an F series is calling them by the wrong term, the first F Series was the 1948 model trucks. It's a common mistake, however, to call these F Series.

Morty, welcome to the site, you've mentioned on some other posts about your truck, start a thread sometime and share pix, we love pix around here. Sorry to say, but I have to disagree, Ford did not produce the 42-47 pickup only for government use. After the beginning of 42 any remaining trucks that weren't sold were taken for use by the government. In 43 and 44 no pickups were produced, just the bigger trucks. In early '45 the government lifted the hold on vehicles allowing Ford to begin production for civilian use. Trucks were the first vehicles to be reintroduced to the public since the government wanted the US to get back to work and trucks were essential for the effort. I have been buying and collecting 42-47 Ford trucks for nearly 20 years now, including nearly every dealership book, showroom manual, even a 3ftx5ft silk banner that hung in a dealership announcing the new "all truck" '42 models.

NNNNew Boards for The42

I need a set of original or aftermarket running boards for my almost finished 42 1/2 ton P/U truck And I did find a vendor who does make new running boards for each individual order. Expensive ??? maybe or maybe not... For me to get originals that are in really good condition I would guess they could be around 500.00 or more From American Muscle Car Parts 937-692-6100 I was told today that the set with all hardware will cost me 750.00 plus 75.00 to ship to my house and it takes them 1-2 weeks to make them and they come to me in raw clean new steel ready to prime and paint... It is just what I needed to finish my42 Ford P/U morty0071@hotmail.com

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:

Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).

When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).

Your pic will be placed in the post.

Hope that helps.
