valve stem vs. band TPS sensors

Bought a new (to me set of 18" chrome lariat style rims for my 2004 Expedition last night. Seller says that they have the band style sensors in them. They look like these:

Originally the Expedition had rims with the valve stem style sensors. Original 17s look like these:

Wondering if the newer band style monitors will communicate with the truck??
OR...
seller works at local Ford dealer's service department and says she will help swap if things don't work.
Do the tires/rims need to be busted down and have sensors swapped???
Will the new 18s accept the valve stem style sensors?
Can the 18" bands be put on the 17" rims?
Appreciate any help/advice that might be had.
THANKS ! ! !

The person you bought them from works in the service department of a Ford Dealer, right? I would think that she could get you this answer faster and with more accuracy than you can get here.

I had hoped for that too.
It was later in the evening when I picked 'em up there.
Almost 7 pm.
The service desk that she worked was open for customers to p/u their rides, but no techs in that late working.

I just get so much great help here, it was my firstthought of places to ask.

Seller talked with her techs today and said that the sensors will need to be "taught" using a scan tool type tool. I am going to mount them on the Expedition and send the wife in to see what they can do. I would have never guessed, but...technology rolls on I guess
Just an FYI if anyone else buys newer rims for an older ride.

Well, I got the chrome wheel on the truck last night.
I like 'em.
Wife likes 'em.
I expected the TPMS light on the dash to be lit up and stay on.
Wife said that the light flashed, I think 7 times, then went out.
Sounds like next week she will head to the dealer and have them do whatever they do.
Anyone know, or know where I can find out what the 7 blinking TPMS flashes means?
Wife thinks that she will just leave it since it is not on totally...Told her no we should get it 100%.
