About a mounth ago I flushed my cooling system ( I used distilled water only, restore alkili flush rinsed until ph was neutral, then filled with peak final charge elc and distilled water) my deltas are looking much better so far ( from 13*-16* to 6*-10*)
A week later while starting the truck I saw a puff of white smoke. Now couple more weeks later it seems every morning white smoke the first couple of stop signs.
This morning and on the ride home it studdered ( a little this morning and more aftr work 12.5 hrs later.
by the time I got home 10mi the truck was running good.
No strong diesel fuel smell or sweet coolent in white smoke?
Also last weekend i pulled egr valve and cleaned it with carb cleaner.
I wanted to unplug the egr and see if the studder went away.
tat egr valve looks wet. when u touch the carbon inside the hole where the egr valve will sit, does it feel moist? even the slightest moist is bad. usually means the egr cooler is out. when that happens, it's also best to change out the oil cooler as well since they sit in such close proximity to each other.
dont worry. the other more senior guys will chime in to offer their expert advice.
Check ficm voltage and watch the coolant bottle like a hawk. Depending on weather, condensation is a slight possibility. Maybe take truck on a long drive. Up to full operating temp and then another hour or so. Will give everything a chance to dry out. Watch closely for white smoke next morning. If it does smoke get out and take a wiff of it. If it's coolant, the smell is unmistakable.
That EGR valve was pretty gnarly! They can cause running issues but usuially black smoke. Also, they are pretty good about turning on the CEL when there's a problem.
