OK, truck is a '61 F-100 Flareside. Already running a 302/C6 combo, but I'm going to be pulling a car hauler with it, so I need to upgrade the steering and brakes.
I have no time or interest in doing a frame swap, so I'm looking for reccomendations on power front disc brake kits and power steering conversions for the original straight axle.
Looks like Classic Performance Parts has the brake setup I need. Anyone have any experience with this kit or any that might be better?
Also looks like the Toyota steering box is the easiest option for power steering. I don't really care for the external ram style systems common to early Mustangs and Vettes. I see that CCP also has the Pitman arm for this conversion, so if I can find a box, all I have to do is fab a bracket and change out the column. Anything else that'll work better?
Thanks.
Bill, Speedway doesn't have a complete, all in one kit. I'd still have to buy the booster/m/c separate. Total comes in a bit cheaper than CCP's complete kit though.
I'll have to see if CCP has wholesale pricing that's not shown on the web site.
Shadowrider, thanks, but he won't ship. Not that I blame him...probably add $100 to the price. I'm gonna see if I can source the pump and gearbox out of a scrapyard and I've got a couple of columns sitting around the shop that I might be able to make work(think I've got one out of an early 'Stang). CCP has the pitman arm and I've got plenty of steel stock and a welder to fab the bracket.
I just bought this little hot rod shop that I've been working at for the last 6 years. I want something I can use to show customers what's possible with a little cash and some elbow grease.
Anyone can build a truck with a big VISA card. I've got plenty of experience with that, now I want to try some low bucks stuff.
I think he has posted that CL ad several times. If you can get the price down low enough I can pick it up and ship it for you. Im about 30 min from him and pass by that way often.
