No, not really- unless maybe you're driving through a lot of water, or in the mountains.
The stopping power of the drums is perfectly fine.
If you've got a functioning 9" back there now, I wouldn't mess with it.

I have the donor to put disk on the front. ithink i will leave the back alone? I have a 74 F100 do you know if the power brakes and steering will work in the 65 F100
I am going with a 460 with a C6

yes, i'd leave the back alone.
the 74 steering and brakes should bolt up. you'll need to swap the column, or cut yours down some.

If you switched the front to a crown vic suspension, then your bolt pattern would be the 5x4.5 pattern like the explorer 8.8 rear. It's what I'm doing. Just picked up a cv front today and it only had 10,000 miles on it. $200 for it
