Different wheel bolt pattern to start with.
F100=5 on 5.5"
Explorer=5 on 4.5"
Why would you want to do this?

the Explorer 8.8's are a little narrow- a Crown Vic (pre-2003) would be a better choice.

but like the previous poster said, you've still got to deal with the different bolt pattern.

Agree with above, the 9 inch is a better rear end, they 8.8 is a c-clip axle retainer rear end. There are better ways to get disc brakes.

Thanks for the feed back, I have had a lot of luck in the past with an 8.8 that is why I went with it, and to get disk brakes also

Is the crown Vic a direct bolt in? Will any bolt in?

Thanks

No, not really- unless maybe you're driving through a lot of water, or in the mountains.

The stopping power of the drums is perfectly fine.
If you've got a functioning 9" back there now, I wouldn't mess with it.

yes, i'd leave the back alone.

the 74 steering and brakes should bolt up. you'll need to swap the column, or cut yours down some.

lots of info about that on the site, here's a tech article:

If you switched the front to a crown vic suspension, then your bolt pattern would be the 5x4.5 pattern like the explorer 8.8 rear. It's what I'm doing. Just picked up a cv front today and it only had 10,000 miles on it. $200 for it
